The Dean Martin Show
April 5, 1974, the final episode of The Dean Martin Show aired, closing out its long NBC run that began on September 16, 1965.Hosted by Dean Martin, the popular TV variety-comedy series ran for 264 episodes and became one of NBC’s signature Thursday night programs for much of its eight-season run. The show was built around Martin’s relaxed, easygoing stage persona, blending musical performances, sketch comedy, and celebrity guest appearances.
Its signature opening theme was Martin’s 1964 hit “Everybody Loves Somebody,” and the program became known for its loose, improvisational feel—often featuring Martin reading cue cards and casually interacting with guests, which became part of its charm and appeal.
The series also helped launch The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast, a long-running spin-off that became a ratings success in its own right throughout the following decade.
