Trivia of Hope Lange (28 November 1933 - 19 December 2003)
*When she was young, Lange worked for her family restaurant on Macdougal Street, near Washington Square Park.Sometimes she walked the dog of former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who had a nearby apartment.When her photo appeared in the newspaper, she received an offer to work as a New York City advertising model.
*Lange's first marriage was to actor Don Murray, whom she met while filming Bus Stop (1956).They had two children, actor Christopher Murray and photographer Patricia Murray. Lange divorced Murray in 1961 for actor Glenn Ford who was her producer and co-star in film Pocketful of Miracles (1961). They had a four-year relationship but never married.
*Made her motion picture debut in Bus Stop (1956) and Barbara Eden was one of her competitors for the part.Her co-star , Marilyn Monroe disliked the presence of a younger blonde and sent a series of memos to producers and the director, even suggesting that Lange be made to dye her hair brown.
*Lange landed a major role in the then-risqué film Peyton Place (1957). Her strong performance earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe Award and another for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She subsequently became well-known for such supporting ingénue roles, and said that the resulting typecasting shortened her movie career.
*Replacing Joanne Woodward's in some movie roles : The True Story of Jesse James (1957) with Robert Wagner and The Young Lions (1958) with Montgomery Clift.
*She earning top billing in The Best of Everything (1959) above the established star Joan Crawford and Suzy Parker. She dealt with most favorably by the critics, according to The New York Times: "Simply because she has the most to do, and does it gracefully, Miss Lange comes off best'.
*Was close friend of Natalie Wood.Lange delivered a stirring eulogy at Wood's funeral.
