Trivia of Jeff Chandler (15 December 1918 - 17 June 1961)
*He stood 6' 4" by the time he was 15, and his hair started to gray when he was 18.
*Possessed of a fine singing voice, at the height of his film fame, he recorded several successful albums for Liberty Records, such Warm and Easy and Sincerely Yours.
*Jeff Chandler played (an Apache Chief)Cochise in 3 films : Broken Arrow (1950), The Battle at Apache Pass (1952) and Taza, Son of Cochise (1954). He was the first actor nominated for an Academy Award for portraying an American Indian.
*Studio make-up departments had to shave Chandler's thick body hair in many of his films. He reportedly had to spend much of his career in itchy discomfort because of the razor stubble on his chest and back.
*After his friend Sammy Davis Jr. lost an eye in an accident and was in danger of losing the other, Chandler offered to give Davis one of his own eyes. However this would have been impossible due to the billions of nerves.
*Not a docile star, in 1954 Chandler rebelled against Universal's mediocre action projects and was suspended several times.Chandler started recognize how heavy his workload was.
*Chandler's career was cut short by his premature death--due to blood poisoning after routine spinal surgery for a slipped disc--at age 42.This was deemed malpractice and resulted in a large lawsuit and settlement for his children.
