The 64th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films of 1991 in the United States and took place on March 30, 1992, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles.
"Silence of the Lambs" won Best Picture over "Beauty and the Beast", "Bugsy", "The Prince of Tides", "JFK".
Jonathan Demme won Best Director for "Silence of the Lambs" over John Singleton "Boyz n the Hood", Barry Levinson "Bugsy", Oliver Stone "JFK", Ridley Scott "Thelma and Louise".
Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for "Silence of the Lambs" over Warren Beatty "Bugsy", Robert De Niro "Cape Fear", Nick Nolte "The Prince of Tides", Robin Williams "The Fisher King".
Jodie Foster won Best Actress for "Silence of the Lambs" over Geena Davis "Thelma and Louise", Laura Dern "Rambling Rose", Bette Midler "For the Boys", Susan Sarandon "Thelma and Louise".
Jack Palance won Best Supporting Actor for "City Slickers" over Tommy Lee Jones "JFK", Harvey Keitel "Bugsy", Ben Kingsley "Bugsy", Michael Lerner "Barton Fink".
Mercedes Ruehl won Best Supporting Actress for "The Fisher King" over Diane Ladd "Rambling Rose", Juliette Lewis "Cape Fear", Kate Nelligan "The Prince of Tides", Jessica Tandy "Fried Green Tomatoes".
