Basil Radford

British character actor Basil Radford, with fellow Brits Linden Travers and Naunton Wayne in the background. They starred here alongside British actors Sir Michael Redgrave CBE as “Gilbert”, Dame May Whitty DBE in her famous role as “Miss Froy”, and Dame Margaret Lockwood DBE as “Iris Henderson”, in Alfred Hitchcock’s British mystery/thriller movie classic ‘The Lady Vanishes’ (1938), also starring Hungarian actor Paul Lukas. The movie was adapted from the 1936 novel ‘The Wheel Spins’ by Ethel Lina White. Basil Radford and Naunton Wayne are probably best known alongside one another as two cricket-obsessed Englishmen in several British movies between 1938 and 1949. Remembering Basil Radford (25th June, 1897 - 20th October, 1952).
