Gary Wayne Coleman (February 8, 1968 – May 28, 2010) Coleman was best known for his role as Arnold Jackson in Diff'rent Strokes (1978–1986) and for his small stature as an adult. He was described in the 1980s as "one of television's most promising stars". After a successful childhood acting career, Coleman struggled financially later in life. In 1989, he successfully sued his parents and business adviser over misappropriation of his assets, only to declare bankruptcy a decade later. He became the most popular fixture of the series, enhanced by his character's catchphrase "What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?". At the height of his fame on Diff'rent Strokes, he earned $100,000 per episode. Coleman became a popular figure, starring in a number of feature films and television films, including On the Right Track and The Kid with the Broken Halo. Johnny Cool

That colorized photo of Elizabeth Montgomery from *Johnny Cool* (1963) is nothing short of mesmerizing—a luminous glimpse of her at the height of her early screen elegance, bathed in the soft, cinematic hues of a bygone Hollywood era. In the original black-and-white film, her presence as **Mary Sunshine**, the gentle nightclub singer, already shone with sincerity and grace. But in color, her legendary auburn hair glows like burnished copper, her eyes shimmer with that unforgettable green depth, and the subtle warmth of her skin and lips brings her to life in a whole new dimension. The cool blues and muted golds of her stage costume—perhaps a silky gown or a shimmering cocktail dress—frame her like a portrait of poised vulnerability, capturing the bittersweet contrast between her character’s hopeful innocence and the dark, mob-infused world swirling around her. What makes this colorized image so special isn’t just the visual beauty—it’s the emotional resonance it carries. At just ...

Chief Massasoit

Afbeelding
Famous People You May Not Know- Chief Massasoit Massasoit was born in a Pokanoket village at the site of today's Rhode Island. His village was near a spring of water which is named after him. He was liked by seven leaders. In March 1621, a Native American named Samoset entered Plymouth Colony and said to the Pilgrims in English, "Welcome Englishmen". He had learned some words from the English fishermen and traders that had visited his tribe. He said he was sent by Massasoit, “the greatest leader of the country.” After a few days, Massasoit came in person and was received with great friendship. Massasoit's people had been seriously weakened by a series of epidemics and were vulnerable to attacks by the Narragansetts, and he formed an alliance with the colonists at Plymouth Colony for defense against them. It was through his assistance that the Plymouth Colony avoided starvation during the early years. When the Pilgrims decided to celebrate a bountiful harvest of Thanks...

Besef

Afbeelding

Samantha Stephens

Afbeelding
Elizabeth Montgomery, best known for her iconic role as Samantha Stephens in the television series Bewitched , had a dynamic and transformative middle life marked by both professional success and personal challenges. During the 1960s and 1970s, she reached the peak of her career with Bewitched , which aired from 1964 to 1972, earning her widespread acclaim and cementing her status as a household name. Despite her flourishing career, her personal life was more complex, as she navigated two divorces and a highly publicized extramarital affair with her Bewitched co-star, Dick Sargent, which she later denied. Montgomery also became increasingly involved in liberal political causes, using her platform to advocate for civil rights and gender equality, reflecting her evolving worldview during this period. Her middle years were a blend of professional triumphs, personal introspection, and activism that shaped her legacy beyond her acting achievements.

A limestone relief

A limestone relief depicting a queen or a goddess as indicated by her 'Vulture Crown' headdress. It dates to the Ptolemaic Period (circa 150 BCE). This piece is now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, England. Photo: Heini Schneebeli. "One might think that all major problems in Egyptian art history have been resolved and that scholars are now only concerned with details. Far from it. There is a whole category of works of art which are crying out for a thorough investigation. These are the so-called sculptors's trial pieces or models, such as the one illustrated here. They may be three-dimensional sculptures, usually royal busts, or two-dimensional plaques with a royal head, or the head of a goddess or a queen (it is difficult to distinguish between them) cut in fine relief. Others may have representations of other deities, animals or large individual hieroglyphs. The decoration may be on both sides of the plaque. These objects are sometimes explained as sculptor's tri...

Bewitched

Afbeelding
Oh, absolutely—Elizabeth Montgomery was breathtakingly beautiful in her youth, but it was never just about her looks.   From the moment she stepped into the public eye in the early 1950s, her presence turned heads: luminous green eyes, a cascade of rich auburn hair, flawless bone structure, and a smile that balanced warmth with quiet intelligence. She carried herself with a natural elegance—never flashy, always refined—whether wearing a simple sweater in a live TV drama or a glamorous gown at a Hollywood premiere. But what made her beauty truly unforgettable was the **soul behind it**. She didn’t just *look* like a star—she *felt* like someone you could trust, someone kind, someone real. Even before *Bewitched* made her a household name, young Elizabeth mesmerized audiences in live theater broadcasts, crime dramas, and romantic films with a rare combination of vulnerability and strength. Directors often remarked on her expressive face—how she could convey joy, sorrow, mischi...

Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn

Afbeelding
Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn at the ‘Bocca della VeritĆ ’ (Mouth of Truth) in Rome, Italy, in the scene that in my opinion made Audrey Hepburn a major star. The movie is William Wyler's American romantic comedy movie for Paramount Pictures, 'Roman Holiday' (1953), also starring Eddie Albert, British actors Hartley Power and Harcourt Williams, British actress Margaret Rawlings, German actor Hans Hinrich, and Italian actors and actresses Tullio Carminati, Paolo Carlini, Claudio Ermelli, Paola Borboni, Laura Solari, Alfredo Rizzo, and Gorella Gori. Gregory Peck wanted to play a joke on Audrey Hepburn and, shortly before filming began, Peck reported to director William Wyler that he would borrow a gag from the famous comedian Red Skelton: he would keep his hand hidden in his sleeve while pulling it out of the mouth of the sculpture in order to scare Audrey. Wyler agreed and did not tell Hepburn who, having recently learned about the legend of the Mouth of Truth, was really sc...

Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn, as “Lady Cynthia Darlington”, is here in her second movie, Dorothy Arzner’s Pre-Code romantic drama ‘Christopher Strong’ (1933), appearing statuesque in a fabulous ‘moderne’ and ‘art deco’ inspired ‘white moth’ costume for a costume party, in the photograph on the left, speaking with her co-star, British actor Colin Clive, whose most memorable role was playing Henry Frankenstein in ‘Frankenstein’ (1931), and ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ (1935), appearing here in this movie as “Sir Christopher Strong”. The RKO Radio Picture was adapted for the screen by ZoĆ« Akins from the 1932 British novel, of the same name, by Gilbert Frankau. The supporting cast includes Billie Burke as “Lady Elaine Strong”, Helen Chandler, best known for her earlier role as “Mina Seward” in Tod Browning’s horror classic ‘Dracula’ (1931), appearing here as “Monica Strong”, Italian actor Agostina Borgato, Margaret Lindsay, Jack La Rue, British actors Ralph Forbes, Desmond Roberts, and Pat Somerset, and B...

Who knew

Afbeelding
Who knew - The bread was not a prop, it was real?? Lucille Ball wanted the scene to look realistic, so instead of using a fake prop, the producers had L.A.’s Union Mode Bakery whip up a giant loaf of rye, and the cast and crew literally broke bread together with the audience after the taping.

Comanches

Afbeelding
Of the mounted Comanches on the Southern Great Plains, they were seen as the most accomplished horsemen by the noted American artist George Catlin. When he traveled with the U. S. First Dragoon Expedition in 1834, Catlin had done sketches of Comanche warriors, village life, and the capturing of wild horses by Comanches with their long ropes. Moreover, George Catlin had written about the dress of the Comanche women in the following manner: "gown or slip, that reaches from the chin quite down to the ankles, made of deer or elk skins; often garnished very prettily, and ornamented with long fringes of elks' teeth, which are fastened on them in rows, and are more highly valued than any other ornament they can put upon them." An interesting picture entitled "Comanche Indian Woman", circa 1920. The wonderful photograph charmingly shows the gracious woman on horseback.
