Trivia of Doris Day
Trivia of Doris Day (3 April 1922 - 13 May 2019)
*While performing for a local radio station, she was approached by band leader Barney Rapp who felt her last name, Kappelhoff, was clumsy and unappealing. Rapp convinced Doris to change her last name after one of the songs in her playlist, “Day by Day.”
*Briefly dated Ronald Reagan - with whom she co-starred in Storm Warning (1950) and The Winning Team (1952) - shortly after his divorce from Jane Wyman when she and Reagan were contract players at Warner Brothers. Day told him that he was so good at talking that he should be touring the country making speeches.
*It was during the location filming of The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), when she saw how camels, goats, and other "animal extras" in a marketplace scene were being treated that began her lifelong commitment to preventing animal abuse.
*Has performed two songs in films that won the Academy Award for Best Original Song: "Secret Love" from Calamity Jane (1953) and "Que Sera, Sera" from The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956).
*She portrayed a pregnant character in Storm Warning (1950), Young at Heart (1954), The Tunnel of Love (1958), and Lover Come Back (1961), with Lover Come Back (1961) being the only film in which she acted out being in labor.
*'The Doris Day Show' changed radically between seasons.Originally airing from 1968 to 1973, The Doris Day Show straddled two eras of television, as the industry shifted from camp and rural comedies to urban realism. At the start of the series, her character lives on a California ranch with her father and children. In season two, the family moves to San Francisco, where Day works as a secretary. In season four, however, Day is suddenly a single career woman, Ć la Mary Tyler Moore. Her children, dad and dog had all disappeared without a trace.
