The Big Leaf maple

The Big Leaf maple (Acer macrophyllum) or also called Oregon maple is a large deciduous tree in the genus Acer. It is indigenous to western North America, mostly near the Pacific coast, from southernmost Alaska to southern California. Usually it reaches a height of 15–20 m (50–65 ft) tall but it can grow up to 48.10 m (157.80 ft) tall. The Big Leaf maple has the largest leaves of any maple, typically 15–30 cm (5.9–11.8 in) across. In the more humid regions where it grows, such as in the Olympic National Park, the bark is covered with epiphytes such as club moss and licorice fern.
