DID YOU EVER NOTICE THE LIGHTING IN GONE WITH THE WIND?
DID YOU EVER NOTICE THE LIGHTING IN GONE WITH THE WIND?We spend so much time looking at Scarlett and Rhett that sometimes the incredible details surrounding them go completely unnoticed!
Take a look at the large hanging light fixture in this scene. It practically dominates the foreground, yet I can’t remember ever really paying attention to it while watching the movie.
The interiors of Gone With the Wind were incredibly elaborate, filled with period-style furniture, lamps, chandeliers, draperies and decorative pieces designed to make Scarlett’s world feel real. The film’s art department put an enormous amount of thought into details that might appear on screen for only seconds.
And here’s something I found fascinating: not every chandelier we see in the movie was even real! In at least one Twelve Oaks sequence, the ceiling and crystal chandelier seen in the background were created through matte-painting effects.
Now I’m going to be watching all the lamps and chandeliers the next time I watch!
