Cleopatra
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the premiere of the film "Cleopatra" directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. The film was shown for the first time on July 31, 1963. The main roles are played by Elizabeth Taylor, Rex Harrison and Richard Burton.
The action of the film begins in 48 BC. n. e. after the Battle of Pharsalus in which Julius Caesar defeated Pompey the Great. Pompey flees to Egypt, hoping to get the help of the young king Ptolemy XIII and his sister Cleopatra. Egyptian pharaoh Ptolemy tries to win over Caesar who is also visiting Egypt. In order to win Caesar's favor, the king's sister Cleopatra sneaks into his palace. Falling in love with Cleopatra, Caesar declares her the sole ruler of Egypt and she becomes his lover, and gives birth to his child. Caesar will have to return to Italy, and during Cleopatra's visit to Rome, Caesar will be killed, and she returns to Egypt. Cleopatra meets Caesar's protégé Mark Antony, who becomes his lover, but they will also be military allies...
