George Brent


 George Brent was born on March 15, 1904 in Shannonbridge, Offally, Ireland and came to NYC, NY but returned to Ireland to fight in the Irish Republic Army in his teens and he was a courier to rebel Michael Collins. The British had a bounty on him. He attended the University of Dublin where he became active in The Abbey Theatre. By 1923 he was in the states and worked in several stage companies and he shared the stage with Alice Brady and Clark Gable. His screen debut was in 1924 as an uncredited worker in "The Iron Horse" and he returned to theater. He was then billed sixth in "Under Suspicion" for Fox. Warner Brothers signed him up and there he had a very lucrative and a very active career with a total of 105 film and TV credits between 1924 and 1978. In the pre-Code era alone he was in "So Big!" 1932, "The Rich Are Always With Us" 1932, "Miss Pinkerton" 1932, "The Purchase Price" 1932, "The Crash" 1932, "They Call It Sin" 1932, "Luxury Liner" 1933, 32nd Street" 1933, "The Keyhole" 1933, "Lilly Turner" 1933, "Baby Face" 1933, "Female" 1933, "From Headquarters" 1934, "Stamboul Quest" 1934, "Housewife" 1934, "Desireable" 1934, and "The Oainted Veil" 1934. He starred with Barbara Stanwyck, Loretta Young, Ruth Chatterton, Myrna Loy, Ann Dvorak and with Bette Davis in a total of 11 times! Brent was married 6 times including ones with Ruth Chatterton and Ann Sheridan and he had 2 children, Barry and Suzanne from his 5th wife, Janet Michael. He died on May 26, 1979 in Solana Beach, CA of Emphysema. He was 75.
