Wojciech Frykowski
Wojciech Frykowski (December 22, 1936- August 9, 1969)He was the son of Jan Frykowski, a textile printer who lost his business during the Nazi occupation of Poland during World War II, and Teofila Stefanowska. He was also a longtime friend of director Roman Polanski. Frykowski was a financier and actor in some of Roman's early films. Frykowski spent time in Paris, France before moving to the United States in 1967. The following year, in New York City, Polish author Jerzy Kosinski introduced him to Abigail Folger of the Folger coffee family. Voytek had little command of English so he and Abigail communicated with each other in French. Abigail constantly helped Voytek with his English, and he was known to take down notes of American customs and practice them constantly. The couple shared a home in New York, and later moved to Los Angeles, watching the home rented by Polanski and his wife Sharon Tate while they were in Europe. While staying with home with Tate, he, Folger, Steven Parent, and Jay Sebring were murdered by Charles Manson and his followers. Frykowski himself was stabbed by Susan Atkins and shot (as stabbed again) by Tex Watson. Wojciech Frykowski was cremated on August 22, 1969. His remains are buried at St. Josef Cemetery in Lodz, Poland.
