Vitré Castle (France)

The general shape of the walls is roughly triangular, with corners reinforced by bastion towers (Tour de la Madeleine to the northeast, Tour de Montafilant to the northwest, Tour Saint Laurent to the south). To the east rises the Châtelet massif (with the entrance over the drawbridge) and to the west a curtain with a covered lodge connects two other towers: Tour de l'Oratoire and Tour de l'Argenterie. The interiors can be visited; The tower of Saint Laurent houses tapestries but also sculptures from the XV and XVI centuries coming from the houses of the city, including a beautiful fireplace brought from Rue de la Poterie. The Tower de l'Argenterie is decorated in a museum of curiosities, and the 82 steps of the tour de Montafilant can be climbed to reach a platform with views of the surroundings.
