THE GRADUATE
"THE GRADUATE" (1967)
MY THOUGHTS:
This is a great movie, from one of America's best moviemakers, and I love everything about it...from the writing to the acting, to the soundtrack and back again! It is a true "classic." One of my all-time favorite actresses, Anne Bancroft, is brilliant in it! I had a REALLY great time revisiting this film and it won't be long before I watch it again!!
SYNOPSIS:
"Benjamin Braddock has just finished college and, back at his parents' house, he's trying to avoid the one question everyone keeps asking: What does he want to do with his life? An unexpected diversion crops up when he is seduced by Mrs. Robinson, a bored housewife and friend of his parents. But what begins as a fun tryst turns complicated when Benjamin falls for the one woman Mrs. Robinson demanded he stay away from, her daughter, Elaine."
STARRING:
Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross, William Daniels, Murray Hamilton and Norman Fell.
(And if you look very quickly, you will spot a VERY young Richard Dreyfus, just behind Norman Fell, and a part of a small group of young men.)
SCREENPLAY:
Buck Henry and Calder Willingham; based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Charles Webb.
DIRECTOR:
Mike Nichols
AWARDS & OTHER HONORS:
It was nominated for seven (7) Academy Awards, but only took home one (1) for: "Best Director" (Mike Nichols).
It was nominated for twenty-eight (28) additional awards, from various entities, and won a total of seventeen (17) of them.
