ON OUR MERRY WAY

 ON OUR MERRY WAY" --- (1948) ---

MY THOUGHTS: I just watched this film for the first time. I enjoyed it very much and just loved the storyline. I also liked the way it was presented, as three short stories revolving around the topic of a newspaper's "daily question" it poses to readers. The cast was great and it was a treat seeing a young Burgess Meredith (who co-produced the film). I would definitely recommend it!
SYNOPSIS: "Oliver is a newspaper classified ads clerk, not the roving reporter he leads his wife, Martha, to believe. But when Martha suggests an interview question, Oliver scrambles to make his deception a reality. He fools an editor into assigning him a story on how babies have changed interviewees' lives. On his quest for answers, two musicians, a famous actress and a magician offer amusing responses."
STARRING: Burgess Meredith, Paulette Goddard, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Dorothy Lamour and Fred MacMurray.
SCREENPLAY: Written by John O' Hara; Screenplay by Laurence Stallings and Lou Breslow; Story by Arch Oboler.
DIRECTOR: Leslie Fenton
REVIEWS:
The VARIETY critic stated, "The cast couldn't have been better. The story's execution falters because a scene here and there is inclined to strive too much for its whimsical effect. But Meredith responds capitally to the mood of the character he plays, being given more of a chance to do so than any of the other stars."
In his review in THE NEW YORK TIMES, Bosley Crowther said, "Apparently all the actors had themselves a wonderful time clowning around . . . this is one of those multi-episode pictures in which a dozen or so familiar names are turned loose in comedy sketches and permitted to let themselves go — a simple temptation which few actors would do anything drastic to resist. In this particular instance, the pleasure of the actors seems to be great for both them and the audience."
