George Sanders
British director Alfred Hitchcock is making one of his signature iconic brief cameo appearances near the end of his movie in this scene, here looking in on Russian born British screen actor George Sanders, who is playing “Jack Favell”, speaking on the telephone in the telephone box, in Alfred Hitchcock’s romantic psychological thriller movie adaptation of the Daphne du Maurier novel, ‘Rebecca’ (1940), also starring, in the leads, British actor and actress Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, and in supporting roles, Australian actress Judith Anderson, and British actors Nigel Bruce, Reginald Denny, C. Aubrey Smith, Leo G. Carroll, Melville Cooper, Leonard Carey, and British actress Gladys Cooper. A decade later George Sanders would win the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, for his performance as the sharp-tongued very witty “Addison DeWitt” in Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s ‘All About Eve’ (1950), also starring Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, Celeste Holm, Thelma Ritter, Gary Merrill, Hugh Marlowe, Gregory Ratoff, Marilyn Monroe, and Barbara Bates.
