When we’re out

When we’re out and about my kids are perfect little angels

They say please and thank you
They listen
They smile
They make me proud

But the second we get home it’s like a switch flips
The sass comes out
The meltdowns start
The chaos begins

For a long time I used to think that meant I was doing something wrong
But I’ve learned it actually means I’m doing something right

They’ve learned how to be respectful and kind when it matters
But at home they finally feel safe enough to let it all out
Because home is their safe place
And I’m their safe place

They know they can show every side of themselves and still be loved for it
