It's Always Fair Weather (1955)
"It's Always Fair Weather" had a lot going for it: a cast full of some of the best dancers in Hollywood, a wonderful score by André Previn, and wildly ambitious choreography. However, it was also weighed down by on-set battles between directors Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, clashes between Kelly and choreographer/dancer Michael Kidd, and perhaps most of all, a downbeat story that limited the film's box office appeal. Ultimately, the film permanently destroyed the working relationship and friendship of Kelly and Donen and was the last dance-oriented MGM musical. Still, the film went on to earn two Oscar nominations (for its screenplay and its musical score), and over the years has gone on to become one of the most highly-regarded musicals of its era.
