Her Majesty, Love
Popular Broadway stars Marilyn Miller as “Lia Toerrek” and Ben Lyon as “Fred von Wellingen”, in William Dieterle’s Pre-Code musical comedy drama film ‘Her Majesty, Love’ (1931), that was produced by First National Pictures. W. C. Fields made his talking feature debut in this film as Lia’s father.
In this film, a Berlin juggler's (W.C. Fields) barmaid daughter (Marilyn Miller) loves a young heir (Ben Lyon) but marries an old baron.
‘Her Majesty, Love’ also featured, in supporting roles, Leon Errol as “Baron von Schwarzdorf”, Ford Sterling as “Otmar”, Chester Conklin as “Emil”, Harry Stubbs as “Hanneman”, Clarence Wilson as “Uncle Cornelius”, Harry Holman as “Reisenfeld”, Ruth Hall as the Factor secretary, Mae Madison as “Elli”, Fred's sister, and Canadian actress Maude Eburne as “Aunt Harriette”.
Remembering Marilyn Miller (September 1, 1898 – April 7, 1936) on her birthday. She was one of the most popular Broadway musical stars of the 1920’s and early 1930’s. She was an accomplished tap dancer, singer, and actress, and the combination of these talents endeared her to audiences. This film was one of three Pre-Code films that Marilyn Miller appeared in.
