The Big Trail

"The Big Trail" 1930 directed by Raoul Walsh, based on the 1849 book, "The California and Oregon Trail" by Francis Parkman.
John Wayne, Marguerite Churchill, El Brendel, Tully Marshall, Tyrone Power Sr., David Rollins, Frederick Burton, Ian Keith, Charles Stevens, Louise Carver.
Filmed in both 35mm and 70mm as well as made in German, Spanish, Italian, and French versions. The large production costs and the six different versions made it impossible to recoup the costs. The 23-year-old John Wayne was cast in either small roles or in leads in low budget westerns until being cast in John Ford's 1939 "Stagecoach".
