MAMMY COULD SAY A THOUSAND WORDS WITH JUST ONE LOOK!
MAMMY COULD SAY A THOUSAND WORDS WITH JUST ONE LOOK!
And THIS look says it all!
Nobody could give Scarlett a disapproving look quite like Mammy!
Sometimes she didn't need to say a single word. One suspicious sideways glance, and you just knew Scarlett was up to something!
But that was the brilliance of Hattie McDaniel.
Her wonderful facial expressions, sharp comedic timing and ability to communicate so much without speaking helped make Mammy one of the most memorable characters in Gone With the Wind.
Whether Mammy was questioning Scarlett's latest scheme, exchanging remarks with Rhett or simply expressing her disapproval, Hattie knew exactly how to make an impression.
Her remarkable performance also made Hollywood history. In 1940, she became the first Black person to win an Academy Award, receiving the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
And let's face it...
SCARLETT GAVE MAMMY PLENTY OF REASONS TO PERFECT THAT LOOK!
