In the beginning, time felt cruel

In the beginning, time felt cruel.

Every sunrise without you was another reminder
that the world kept moving when I didn’t know how.

But then I started to notice something —
grief was moving too.
Not away from you, but with you.
Like a river carrying us both —
me on one side, you on the other,
drifting through different worlds but under the same sky.

There are still days the current pulls hard.
Days when I find your toy and it all comes flooding back.
But even then, I’ve learned to breathe with it —
to let the memories come and go like tides.

Because time, when you stop fighting it,
isn’t an enemy.
It’s a gentle river that knows how to carry love.

Sometimes I sit by the water and whisper your name.
The ripples move, as if answering.
And for a moment, I swear I see your reflection smiling back.

You’re not gone.
You’re just on the other shore —
running through the shallows,
waiting for me to wade across when it’s my turn.

Until then, I’ll keep walking beside the river.
I’ll let time soften what it can,
and keep love alive in every wave that touches the shore.

Because love, like water,
always finds its way back home.
