Dina Merrill


 Dina Merrill (1923–2017), born Nedenia Marjorie Hutton, an accomplished actress and socialite whose career spanned stage, film, and television. Merrill made her stage debut in The Mermaid Singing in 1945 and went on to appear in notable films including Desk Set (1957), Operation Petticoat (1959), The Sundowners (1960), Butterfield 8 (1960), The Courtship of Eddie’s Father (1963), and A Wedding (1978). She also starred in numerous made-for-TV movies, such as Seven in Darkness (1969) and The Tenth Month (1979), and became a familiar face on game and panel shows like The Match Game, To Tell the Truth, What’s My Line, and Hollywood Squares.

Merrill’s personal life included three marriages: to Colgate heir Stanley M. Rumbough Jr., actor Cliff Robertson, and producer Ted Hartley, with whom she had four children in total.

Dina Merrill passed away on May 22, 2017, at her home in East Hampton, New York, after suffering from dementia with Lewy bodies. She is interred at Bethesda Episcopal Church by the Sea Columbarium in Palm Beach, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of elegance, talent, and enduring contributions to American entertainment.
