A Rainbow Wrapped Around the Moon
A Rainbow Wrapped Around the Moon .. Lunar Corona of ColorTonight, the Moon wore a halo unlike any other ... not the wide icy ring of a typical lunar halo, but a glowing corona painted in shifting bands of blue, green, yellow, and deep fire-orange.
This phenomenon is born from something impossibly delicate:
tiny water droplets drifting through thin clouds, bending moonlight just enough to scatter it into color.
Unlike rainbows, coronas cling close to the Moon, pulsing and shimmering as the droplets swirl in the upper air.
For a moment, the night sky looked alive .. an iris opening, the Moon at its center like a luminous pupil.
Gentle physics. Fierce beauty.
A celestial rainbow woven entirely from moonlight and mist.
