Mrs Butterfield

.

In 1854, Mary married Victorian millionaire and textile manufacturer, Henry Isaac Butterfield.
The couple lived in Paris and Nice, and were extremely well connected.

Two years after this portrait was painted, Mary sadly passed away.
The painting is currently on loan at Bradford Museums & Galleries, but the painting's normal home is Cliffe Castle Museum.
Cliffe Castle was originally the home of Henry Isaac Butterfield in the 1880s.
