"THE PHILADELPHIA STORY" (1940)
This romantic comedy film is a true classic! It stars Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart. It is wonderful and comical story. It is definitely worth the watch! It was nominated for 6 Academy Awards and won 2 for "Best Actor in a Leading Role" and "Best Writing / Screenplay," for which it is included in the schedule. It was nominated for a total of 3 additional awards and won 2 of them. One went to Hepburn for "Best Actress" from the New York Critics Circle. The other honor came in 2016, when it was awarded by OFTA and was put into their "Hall of Fame." It also was adapted, as a musical, for 1956's "High Society." That movie starred Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra. It had a supporting cast of amazing and very talented actors and actresses. In 1995 it was selected by the National Film Registry for preservation.
SYNOPSIS: "This classic romantic comedy focuses on Tracy Lord (Katharine Hepburn), a Philadelphia socialite who has split from her husband, C.K. Dexter Haven (Cary Grant), due both to his drinking and to her overly demanding nature. As Tracy prepares to wed the wealthy George Kittredge (John Howard), she crosses paths with both Dexter and prying reporter Macaulay Connor (James Stewart). Unclear about her feelings for all three men, Tracy must decide whom she truly loves."
