Those vertical “color beams” look like light pillars / pillar-like rays — an effect that happens when light reflects off tiny, flat ice crystals in cold air (or high clouds). When the crystals are mostly horizontal, they act like millions of little mirrors and stretch bright sources into tall vertical streaks.
