RAINBOW CAP

DEVILS TOWER UNDER AN IRIDESCENT “RAINBOW CAP”

A stacked cloud wrapped in pastel bands, hovering over the tower like layers.

Those colors are cloud iridescence: sunlight gets diffracted by very tiny, similarly-sized water droplets or ice crystals in a thin cloud layer, splitting light into soft rainbow shades. The smooth, layered shape can happen when steady winds and a strong updraft create wave clouds / lenticular-like layers that “stack” in place.
