Margaret Beaufort

Margaret Beaufort’s marriage and consummation at twelve was controversial even for medieval times.

Her giving birth at thirteen years old left her immature body, probably injured for life.

And while it was perfectly acceptable to marry a child in the 15th century, you didn't have to have sęx with them while they were a still a child. In such cases, the child remained with her parents until she reached a certain "proper" age.

But that didn't matter for the 25 years old Edmund Tudor, eager to consolidate the Beaufort alliance.

Excerpt from Dr Elizabeth Norton.
