Inherit the Wind

"Inherit the Wind" is a powerful courtroom drama film released in 1960, directed by Stanley Kramer. Loosely based on the real-life Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, the film explores the clash between science and religion, as well as the freedom of thought and expression.

Set in a small town in Tennessee, the story unfolds as a schoolteacher named Bertram Cates (Dick York) is put on trial for teaching evolution in violation of state law. The trial becomes a media sensation, attracting attention from around the country. Leading the defense is Henry Drummond (Spencer Tracy), a fictionalized version of Clarence Darrow, while Matthew Harrison Brady (Fredric March), inspired by William Jennings Bryan, prosecutes the case.
