'Three on a Match' (1932)
Lyle Talbot as "Michael Loftus", Humphrey Bogart as "Harve", and Ann Dvorak as "Vivian Revere Kirkwood", in Mervyn LeRoy's American Pre-Code crime drama released by Warner Brothers Pictures, 'Three on a Match' (1932), also starring Joan Blondell as "Mary Keaton" / "Mary Bernard", Bette Davis as "Ruth Westcott", Warren William as "Robert Kirkwood", Anne Shirley as "Vivian Revere" as a child, Allen Jenkins as "Dick", Edward Arnold as "Ace", Frankie Darro as "Bobby", and Glenda Farrell as "Mrs. Black".
This film is often cited as the one with Humphrey Bogart's first 'tough guy" role on screen. It's amazing how much Mervyn LeRoy is able to pack into this excellent face-paced film. 'Three on a Match' is considered by many to be one of Warner Brothers' best Pre-Code films, and Ann Dvorak's riveting performance in it I consider to be one of the finest performances by any actress in a Pre-Code film.
