Dennis Gerrard Stephen Doherty
Dennis Gerrard Stephen Doherty (November 29, 1940 – January 19, 2007)He was best known as a founding member of the 1960s musical group The Mamas & the Papas. With the Mamas and the Papas, he led the group onto the charts with hits including "Monday, Monday," "California Dreamin," "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and "Dedicated to the One I Love." In the mid-1960s, Time magazine called the Mamas and the Papas one of the top bands in America. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. In addition to his singing career, he is also known for his solo albums and his work on the children's TV series Theodore Tugboat. Denny Doherty died on January 19, 2007, at his home in Mississauga, Ontario, from kidney failure following surgery for a abdominal aortic aneurysm. He is interred at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia.
