He joined with Helen Twelvetrees to direct one of her grittiest films, "Panama Flo" 1932 with Charles Bickford and Robert Armstrong which is up there with "Safe in Hell" as a classic of that genre. "Okay America!" 1932 was inspired by Walter Winchell, Maureen O'Sullivan, Louis Calhern and also in 1932 was "One Way Passage" William Powell, Kay Francis, Frank McHugh, Aline MacMahon, Warren Hymer. "Destination Unknown" 1933 Pat O'Brien, Ralph Bellamy, and Betty Compson dealt with a group of people adrift on a schooner with no wind and "S.O.S.
