Fitzroy

In June 1525, Henry raised his illegitimate son, Fitzroy, to the high rank of Duke of Richmond and Somerset.

Than he celebrated at court with food and dancing.

The royal kitchens repositories reveal the extraordinary rich food reserved for the feast.

For starters they had dense soup 🍲 , boiled 🍖 beef and mutton, four geese, three capons, fried veal, and custard.

Next : lamb, six rabbits 🐇, fourteen pigeons, a bird, a tarte, sweets, four gallons of beer, two jugs of wine 🍷, and fruits.

However, the king knew that none of his subjects would ever accept Fitzroy as his heir.

Even Mary, his daughter, would have been a better choice for them, then a bastard son on the throne of England.

Excerpt from the private lives of the Tudors.
