The Cat and the Fiddle
"The Cat and the Fiddle" 1934 directed by William K. Howard and Sam Wood, written by Bella Spewack, Sam Spewack, and Otto A. Harbach for MGM.
Ramon Novarro, Jeanette MacDonald, Frank Morgan, Charles Butterworth, Jean Hersholt, Vivienne Segal. Frank Conroy, Henry Armetta, Adrienne D'Ambricourt, Joseph Cawthorn.
Jeanette MacDonald's first MGM film was this big budget operetta, but her voice and Ramon Novarro's did not blend very well. In fact, they had no onscreen chemistry, and she would be paired again with Maurice Chevalier and then with Nelson Eddy. Novarro would only have two remaining films at MGM, "Laughing Boy", as a Native American Indian, and in a musical, "The Night is Young" with English actress Evelyn Laye.
