I grew up thinking discipline meant punishment

I grew up thinking discipline meant punishment. Yelling. Grounding. Losing privileges. Fear.

But discipline actually means to teach.

It means guiding your kids. Showing them what’s right. Helping them figure out better ways.

Punishment might stop the behavior in the moment. But discipline shapes who they become long term.

Discipline isn’t about making your child afraid of you. It’s about being the safe place they can come back to, even after they mess up.

Because when they’re grown, I don’t want them to remember how much I scared them. I want them to remember how much I taught them.
