Louise Allbritton

Born on July 3, 1920 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Louise began her screen career in 1942 in a World War II film called, "Parachute Nurse." An actress who had parts in many medium — and low‐budget pictures, she is perhaps best remembered for her featured roles in "Pittsburgh" (1942), "Son of Dracula" (1943) and "The Egg and I" (1947), with Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray. Three more comedies followed in 1948: "Sitting Pretty" starring Robert Young and Maureen O'Hara; "An Innocent Affair" starring Fred MacMurray; and "Walk a Crooked Mile" starring Dennis O’Keefe. Including her bit parts, she appeared in a total of 24 films before retiring in 1949. Although memorable, her career was short-lived and according to some critics, it may have been mismanaged. On television, she co-starred in the CBS drama "Stage Door" (1950) and also played the title role in the NBC-TV series "Concerning Miss Marlowe" (1954). She had been married to CBS news correspondent and author Charles Collingwood since 1946, and after retiring, enjoyed traveling the globe with her husband while he was on assignments. On February 16, 1979, Miss Allbritton passed away from bone cancer of the spine at her home in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, aged 58.
