Women vs men in Tudor England
Women vs men in Tudor EnglandIt was common practice for husbands to visit prostitutes or have affairs with lower-class women.
But the same blind eye was not turned to wives.
Women were expected to do their duty and tolerate unsatisfactory marriages and produce the necessary heirs .
Yet it was widely believed that women were more sexually voracious and uncontrolled than men. They had an uncontrolled urge for the hot essence of a man .
While men had the strength to control their appetites, women were too weak to do so.
It was believed that a woman who indulged in excessive intercourse would render herself infertile because her womb would become too moist and slippery to hold onto a man's seed.
