Florence Eldridge as “Juliette” and Frank Fay as “Adolphe Noblet” / “Leopold”, in Michael Curtiz’s American Pre-Code comedy film produced and released by Warner Brothers Pictures, ‘The Matrimonial Bed’ (1930). The film was adapted from the French play ‘Au premier de ces messieurs’ by André Mouëzy-Éon and Yves Mirande. The English language version of the play, by Sir Seymour Hicks, was performed in New York on on Broadway in 1927.
The film also featured Lilyan Tashman as “Sylvaine”, James Gleason as “Gustave Corton”, Beryl Mercer as “Corinne”, Marion Byron as “Marianne”, Vivian Oakland as “Suzanne Trebel”, Arthur Edmund Carew as “Dr. Friedland”, and James Bradbury Sr. as “Chabonnais”.
Florence Eldridge (September 5, 1901 – August 1, 1988) was an American actress of stage and screen. She was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play in 1957 for her performance in Eugene O’Neill’s ‘Long Day's Journey into Night’. She was married to Hollywood screen legend Fredric March from 1927 until his death in 1975, and she appeared alongside him on stage and in seven films.
