Anne
Anne spent an anxious night at Greenwich following Henry’s abrupt departure from the jousting and she may have suspected that he had spent the night with Jane Seymour or another.
A veil of silence had been placed around her and she would she would not have known of either Smeaton's arrest or Norris's interrogation until her uncle, the Duke of Norfolk, with several other members of the king' s council came to arrest her on the morning of May 2.
No details of Anne’s interrogation survived. She must have been terrified. Although she must have realized she lost Henry’s love, she could never imagine being a prisoner at the Tower.
As she arrived there , her self composure gave away and " fell downe on her knees before the said lords , beseeching God to help as she was not giltie of her accusament ".
As she entered the Tower she asked the lieutenant, Mr Kingston if she was going to the dungeon. He assured her that she would be logged into the royal apartments with only 4 ladies selected probably by Cromwell.
From Elizabeth Norton.
