The film stars Lon Chaney Jr. as the Monster, Cedric Hardwicke as Dr. Ludwig Frankenstein, and Bela Lugosi as Ygor.In "The Ghost of Frankenstein," the story picks up after the events of "Son of Frankenstein." The Monster's body is found preserved in sulfur and retrieved by the nefarious Ygor (Bela Lugosi). Ygor convinces Dr. Ludwig Frankenstein, the son of Henry Frankenstein, to revive the Monster. However, Dr. Frankenstein's motives are driven more by his desire to redeem his family's name rather than by scientific curiosity. As Dr. Frankenstein attempts to restore the Monster to full strength, chaos ensues, and the villagers become increasingly fearful of the creature's potential for destruction.
The film is notable for being the first in the series to feature Lon Chaney Jr. as the Monster, taking over the role from Boris Karloff.
