Gypsy Rose Lee


 Gypsy Rose Lee, born Rose Louise Hovick (February 9, 1911 – April 26, 1970)

Gypsy was an American burlesque entertainer famous for her striptease act. She was also an actress, author, and playwright whose 1957 memoir was made into the stage musical and film Gypsy. In 1937, she made her film debut in the movie "Ali Baba Goes to Town," under her real name. She made several movies in the late 1930s and early 1940s, but most of them failed. She then wrote a novel, "The G-String Murders" (1941), and a play, "Doll Face" (1945). She was married three times, and had one son. Gypsy Rose Lee died of lung cancer in 1970, and is buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, California.
