East of Eden


 "East of Eden" is a 1955 drama film directed by Elia Kazan and based on the novel of the same name by John Steinbeck. The film stars James Dean, Julie Harris, Raymond Massey, and Jo Van Fleet.

The story is set in the early 20th century in the Salinas Valley of California and follows Cal Trask (James Dean), a troubled young man who struggles to gain the approval and affection of his father, Adam Trask (Raymond Massey). Cal's relationship with his brother Aron (Richard Davalos) is strained by their father's favoritism, and he becomes embroiled in a complex love triangle involving Aron's girlfriend, Abra (Julie Harris).

Dean's portrayal earned him widespread acclaim and posthumously solidified his status as a cultural icon.
