🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 The Treaty of Greenwich contained two agreements, both were signed on 1st July 1543.

These treaties between Scotland and England included a general peace treaty and a marriage agreement.

The treaty proposed a union between Mary Queen of Scots and Prince Edward - son of King Henry VIII of and Jane Seymour.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Also in the negotiations, was a proposal for the union between King Henry and Anne Boleyn's daughter, the Lady Elizabeth and James Hamilton.

James was the son of the Scottish Regent the Earl of Arran

However, when the treaty was put in front of the Scottish Parliament on 11th December 1543, it was promptly rejected.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Instead, Mary Queen of Scots was betrothed to the French dauphin Francis - the eldest son of King Henri II and Catherine de Medici

The rejection of these proposals led to eight years of fighting between the English and the Scots.

This conflict would become known as 'The Rough Wooing'.
