Anne Boleyn
On the morning of May 18th, 1536, Anne Boleyn woke up in the Tower of London, where she had been imprisoned since her arrest on charges of adultery, incest, and treason. She had been held there for approximately three weeks.
During her last day, Anne Boleyn was visited by her chaplain, who provided her with spiritual guidance and administered the sacraments. She spent the day in prayer and contemplation, preparing herself for her imminent execution.
Anne's last meal was a simple one, consisting of some bread and wine. She may have also taken some herbal remedies to help calm her nerves.
In the evening, Anne wrote a letter to her husband, King Henry VIII. The exact contents of the letter are not known, but it is believed that she maintained her innocence and expressed her love for him. It was a final plea for mercy and reconciliation.
As night fell, Anne Boleyn prepared herself for bed, knowing that it would be her last night alive. She likely spent the final hours in prayer and reflection, coming to terms with her impending death.
