Native Americans

Not much is known about this photograph, including when it was taken, who took it, and why the Native Americans were gathered in a circle in the street with horse-drawn wagons are in the circle.
However, Broadwater Brothers Drugs storefront is visible in the photo, and we know a little about him.
Edward Broadwater was a distant cousin to powerful Helena businessman Charles A. Broadwater, Edward was important to the Havre area, first as a clerk at the post trading store at Fort Assinniboine, and later joining Simon Pepin in opening a store in Havre.
Their efforts, along with other factors ,helped make Havre one of the Great Northern Railroad division points.
But that doesn't mean Edward Broadwater necessarily was universally loved. According to the Havre Residential Historical District Walking Tour Map, when his home - a fine Arts and Crafts-style mansion - was being constructed, a fire was discovered under the staircase and the Fire Department ruled it was set by an arsonist.
The home was completed anyway, and continues to be a significant part of the historic district.
