Silly Billies

"Silly Billies" 1936 directed by Fred Guiol, written by Al Boasberg, Jack Townley, and Thomas Lennon for RKO

Bert Wheeler, Robert Woolsey, Dorothy Lee, Harry Woods, Ethan Laidlaw, Chief Thunderbird, Delmar Watson, Richard Alexander, Stanley Blystone, Tommy Bond, Willie Best
I have seen 15 Wheeler and Woolsey movies and there are 7 that I have not seen. It seems that people have seen one of their movies and were put off by them and concluded that people in the 1930s found them funny while people today do not see what was funny about them at all. That would be like saying that all of us in the 60s found Jerry Lewis and Don Knotts hilarious. Wheeler and Woolsey were very much hit or miss. Tonight, I barely made it through "Cockeyed Cavaliers" which I thought would be good with Mark Sandrich directing and with Thelma Todd guest starring. It was not good. This one, to my surprise, was amusing in a style of the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby movies and, as the title suggests, it is silly, and it is racist in its representation of Native American Indians, but how many other films are guilty of that?!
