Lew Ayres


 Lew Ayres, December 28, 1908, in Minneapolis, MN - December 30, 1996, Los Angeles, CA. He was married to Lola Lane 1930-1933, to Ginger Rogers 1934-1940, and Diana Hall 1964-1996. He became a star with Lewis Milestone's "All Quiet on the Western Front" in 1930 which led him to star in several fine pre-Code films such as "The Iron Man" with Jean Harlow, "Night World" with Mae Clarke, "Okay America!" with Maureen O'Sullivan, "The Impatient Maiden" with Mae Clarke, "State Fair" with Janet Gaynor, "Cross Country Cruise" with June Knight, and nine films as Dr. Kildare beginning in 1938 with "Young Doctor Kildare". He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his 1948 performance in "Johnny Belinda". Ayres was a pacifist in World War II, but he served as a medic in the South Pacific. He acted into the 1970s and 1980s, often on television, including "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".
