Caroline von Holnstein was a German noblewoman, best known for her appearance in the 'Gallery of Beauties'
Caroline was born on the 8th May 1815, in Schwandorf~Bavaria.
After her father's death in 1829, she began looking for a suitable husband.
On 9th November 1831, aged 16, she married 34-year-old Count Carl Theodor von Holnstein aus Bayern.
It was no love match, the couple didn't like each other very much at all.
Despite this, they had three children together.
Sadly a son and daughter died at birth, and their remaining son Count Maximilian Carl Theodore, would be a good friend and playmate of princes Ludwig and Otto ~ both later Kings of Bavaria.
While married to the Count von Holnstein, Caroline met and fell in love with the married nobleman, Baron Wilhelm von KĆ¼nsberg, who returned her affections in secret.
Reportedly, Count von Holnstein tolerated his wife's illicit relationship with Wilhelm, but refused her an official separation.
Caroline and Wilhelm had four illegitimate children together.
Baron Wilhelm Maximilian KĆ¼nsberg von Fronberg (1838–1909)
Baroness Wilhelmine Maria Caroline KĆ¼nsberg von Fronberg (1841–1889)
Baron Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Karl KĆ¼nsberg von Fronberg (1842–1876)
Baron Rudolf Philipp Wilhelm Goswin Karl KĆ¼nsberg von Fronberg (b. 1844)
The Count's death in 1895, cleared Caroline's way to marry Wilhelm.
Caroline married Baron von KĆ¼nsberg on 21st September 1857 at the Pilgrimage church of Kreuzberg in Schwandorf.
Her illegitimate children were then officially legitimized.
Caroline died at Schloss Fronberg on 24th July 1859, aged 44.
She was buried there in a sarcophagus, in a room adjacent to the castle chapel.
