*She used her first husband's name, Miles, because there already was a Vera Ralston film actress.
*Miles’ breakthrough role came in the 1955 film “Tarantula,” where she starred alongside Shirley Temple's husband John Agar. Her performance in the film caught the attention of Alfred Hitchcock, who cast her in the lead role of “The Wrong Man” (1956) co-starring with Henry Fonda. This was the beginning of a long relationship between blonde Miles and Hitchcock.Signing a five-year personal contract with Hitchcock in 1957, Miles was widely publicized as the director's potential successor to Grace Kelly.
*Cast in Vertigo (1958) opposite Jimmy Stewart, but her pregnancy and subsequent production delays cost her the role. She replaced by Kim Novak.
*Originally, she was considered for the role of Marion Crane in Psycho (1960) and Janet Leigh was intended for the role of Lila Crane. After a few screen tests, the actresses roles were reversed when they, and Hitchcock, agreed that it would be better for both them and the characters centered within the screenplay.
*Her scenes as John Wayne's wife in The Green Berets (1968) were deleted from the movie before its release. The scene only took one morning to shoot, but the film was already considered overlong, and that scene was judged easiest to cut. Batjac, Wayne's company, offered her $10,000 for her work. When she refused that, they then offered her a new car, which she also declined to accept. Wayne made up for this by casting Miles in his next film Hellfighters (1968). However Wayne later admitted that considering how bad "Hellfighters" was it wasn't much of a compensation for her.
